ABOUT CROATIA

ZAGREB

Located in the northwest of the country, Zagreb (only 10 minutes away from Zaprešić), is the capital and the largest city of Croatia. Through centuries Zagreb evolved into a rich cultural, scientific, trade and economic centre. With its preserved architecture, tradition and cultural development, the medieval atmosphere of the city is still present today. Modern Zagreb is a political and administrative centre of the Republic of Croatia, but also a business centre as well as the city of culture, art and entertainment. It is also known as a student friendly town with a number of higher education institutions, libraries, accommodating students from all parts of Croatia, numerous student discounts, events, job opportunities, workshops etc. As a city which is popular among young people, Zagreb has become a city that never sleeps, offering a variety of entertainment suited for all ages, meeting the needs of its inhabitants, guests and tourists alike. Besides cultural, historical, entertainment and sports facilities, Zagreb has many more things to offer to its visitors – a unique gourmet experience, beautiful observation decks and various cultural and entertainment events.

Zagreb offers everything mentioned above within a reach. A baroque atmosphere of the Upper Town, picturesque open-air markets with an excellent selection of local gastronomic products, diverse shopping facilities located in historical buildings in Ilica, the longest street in Zagreb, a variety of top quality crafts, tailored to suit the needs of a customer – these are only some of the features found in the city centre. Should you feel a bit peckish and wish to take a rest after sightseeing, comfortable little family-owned restaurants will definitely satisfy the needs of all gourmets with a refined taste in food.

Because Zaprešć it was once considered one of its boroughs, these two cities share a similar dynamics, and the traffic connection is excellent. There are bus and railway lines that run every 10 minutes, and it takes them 20 minutes to get to the centre of Zagreb. Zagreb, like Zaprešić is very safe city and you can walk in every time of the day alone and be relaxed. It is only a two-hour drive from the coastline.

ZAPREŠIĆ

The city of Zaprešić is situated 17 kilometres west of Zagreb and has a population of 26000 inhabitants.

This small but interesting city features many exciting tourist attractions. Its cultural heritage includes a series of six historic castles and palaces: Lužnica mansion, Januševac palace, Laduč mansion, Oršić family mansion in Gornja Bistra and Jakovlje palace, as well as many churches. In addition, there are many flora and fauna reserves accompanied by fine cuisine, traditional manifestations and rural tourism. Zaprešić is also known for New Jelačić Palace, which remains one of the most well-preserved examples of feudal manorial estates in Croatia. There are many sports facilities, such as football, handball, basketball, bowling, equestrian sports and show jumping, paragliding, powered hang gliding, motocross, cycling, tennis and golf.

The University of Applied Sciences Baltazar Zaprešić is “tailor-made for each student”, as our school motto says. The University’s management makes efforts to ensure maximum quality of studying for our students. Relevant exam literature can be found in our university library; there is also a study area equipped with computers and a free average-speed Wi-Fi access throughout the campus.

Since the University follows world trends in education, it implemented the Baltazar distance education system, which gives students a chance to have online support and enables them to access lectures or exercises and communicate with teachers, regardless of their location. The online study system is regularly and timely updated with new content and relevant information.

Students can also participate in numerous ongoing projects, propose their own project, or seek help and advice from their teachers.

Studying is only one segment of student life, so the University took this into consideration and provided a recreational area for our students. There is a café bar on the campus where cigarettes are allowed, a canteen where students can have a three-course meal for just a few euros. As for breaks between the lectures, there is a vending machine with sweets. ☺

Besides Zaprešić, courses within the specialist professional graduate studies are also held in Zagreb.
